Did you all enjoy the holiday weekend? I definitely benefited from the extra day we had off here in the US and got some stuff done around my apartment. But I have to be honest, I'm making myself go crazy trying to decorate the new place. As soon as I decide on the direction I want to take it, I see something else I love and have to rethink everything. I'm trying my best to remember these wise words about committing to a concept, but find it challenging at moments. Somehow I think it's harder to design for yourself than for others :) Do you agree?

One thing I am considering is swapping out this sisal rug I currently have in favor of a traditional red rug. I love the way they look paired with white!

And since my couch and armchairs are white, I think I could pull this off fairly easily. Plus, with fall ahead of us, it's the perfect time to introduce some warm tones into my decor palette.

What I'm most drawn to about this look, is the beautiful mixing of two eras. White furniture tends to evoke a modern, minimalist style, while an elaborately designed rug brings feelings of luxury, traditional and layers. The two achieve opposite aims yet marry so well together.

For now, it's just one of the many ideas and inspirations floating around in my head these days...I'll let you know if I actually do it :)

You are brave !! I have yet to embrace the traditional red carpet...:-) Beautiful as they are. I have to tell you that last pic is really fantastic for perfectly showcasing it's beauty.
I say go for it. It's a fabulous idea to warm up your white furniture. But, hey, I'm a red anything gal. I love all your pics for inspiration. Wonderful post and glad I found you too!

i've always been around rugs like this - they go with everything. back at mom and dad's house - the froufrou furniture; in college - the thrifted finds; and now, as you've shown - the modern mix. well done!
Ohh, i love that idea and the look of it, go fort it! can't wait to see!
i adore your blog... esp the all white... sorry, people can say whatever they want about white...i adore it...clean, refreshing and so calming...
Oh, I think that it is so much harder to design for yourself but it sound like you have fantastic inspiration! Love that last room from Skona Hem.
I can totally understand where you are coming from. I struggle between 2 color schemes and am still struggling...
I think the warm, rich toned rug is a great idea! I really appreciate seeing a space come together beautifully with the unexpected. A lovely contrast.
:)
I swear we are always on the same wavelength! I have a red rug that my husband got in Morocco that's been rolled up in storage for years but lately I've been thinking of breaking it out. You first! :)
SO so true!! Honestly I have been trying to change my bedroom for what seems like forever but than I stall out. I think as designers we have so many images coming at us from blogs to scouting for clients our own style can waiver...which is not always a bad thing! With that said I love the red and think mixing is a great thing! Go for it girl!!!
Well done indeed! I just love how these rugs add richness and warmth.
I have some very traditional oriental rugs in the same color scheme as the ones on your post and I have had such a hard time figuring out how to lighten the room up. I love the rugs, and they were free --hand me downs from my parents so I hate to not use them! I am thinking maybe I need to go with white furniture.
Your inspiration pictures are beautiful! I'm having the same issues decorating our new place too; so many great ideas, but commiting to one direction is hard for me too!
