The Poetics of Space: The Library

There's something magical about books. They hold the great stories of our world and await patiently to be discovered.
Books are like people. They tell you stories, teach you lessons, make you laugh, make you cry, and always keep you company on a lonely night.

These libraries, though void of people, are full of companionship. When I am ready to listen, they are there with something to say.
They help to remind me that the spaces in which we live are very much alive, continuously contributing to the dialogue of our lives.

Hello Crystal, I love these libraries and I like your thoughts, too! Since I have my kids, I can read much less than I wanted, but I hope that they will be bookworms just like me!

If space isn't a constraint, i would so love to have those giant tall bookshelves!

I agree with everything you say. I always think it's weird when I visit someone's house and they don't have a single book on their shelves. Me, I have tons!!!

Love this! You put into words so well why I find such comfort in libraries--thanks! Now I'm inspired to go to one . . .

I love these spaces. I prefer to purchase books because I like having them around - they're like old friends.

I sometimes think that I should give up one bedroom and have a library rather than books in stray cases all over the house. This line of thought is considerably intensified by your photos...

I absolutely adore libraries. I can't wait to have a home of my own so I can just completely dedicate one room to being the library, and I'd love to have it overflowing with books. There really is something so magical about them - the knowledge they contain, the way they seem to reach back into the past and far into the future, the way the previous readers still somehow haunt the pages...

Wow! You read my mind!!! I've been thinking about book shelves all day today (planning to change my room a bit) and here you are with your fabulous post! THANK YOU! xxx

i love books soooo much! My dad is an English professor, so we've always had huuuuge libraries. I love them! I always live in apartments, so I tend to get rid of books, but I still have a few hefty bookshelves :-)

I actually cut the second image out of domino awhile ago (they had it featured because the home owner covered all of their books in butcher paper to give a cohesive appearance!)

Lovely Crystal. Well said. For lack of a better way to put it ~ books rule! ERveryu home should devote a room or a section of a room to books. Add a comfotable chair and a side table for tea and I'm good for hours (if I had hours to devote to such a lovely experience :)

I totally agree. I love reading. I don't understand it when I hear some people hate it. Great images!

I LOVE libraries! I totally agree with your thoughts...there's something so special about books and the stories that they carry. We connect to words in such a powerful way. I love the feel of image 04 -- comforting blankets, pillows and stacks of books :)

We have a cozy library in our home -- it's for certain the most loved room of all! Sometimes, I never want to leave...

A wonderful post, Crystal! Whenever I open your page, there's always a thoughtful post waiting.

I couldn't agree more with your commentary on libraries, and the importance of books and literature. Thanks for sharing this.
