As a girl, I know you can never have enough LBDs. They're always in style and there's always a last minute occasion to pop up when you're glad you have one.
So, as I build my own LBD collection, I'd like to know what your go-to style is and your favorite shop for finding these fantastic little dresses!

J.Crew all the way. Easy to find one on sale too :)
The first picture is just lovely!
I think in Italy, the LBD is so essential - you might agree with that! I have never lived anywhere that I enjoy dressing nice so much as I do now, and there are plenty of occasions that I have needed my LBD. I actually picked up one from a little boutique where they have discounted labels. I'm sure you saw the great boutiques in Rome that I am seeing! It seems that this is a great place to get one-of-a-kind items. Great post and I love that 1st photo!

I am love.love.loving that first dress! Way cute! XOXO
oo I agree. LBD's are essential. Especially because I am an accessory girl and like to change up a versatile piece.
Banana Republic
Shabby Apple
Forever21
three great places for LBD's:)
Great images, Crystal! I completely agree -- the LBD is always there, always classic, and always stylish. I have a trench that is a part of my LBD category as it has many characteristics of a dress. I like to wear it with my black lace tights and nude heels. I find that a splash of color, via a shoe or scarf, keeps the dress stylish and upbeat. I also like to a little more fun with jewelry if the dress is simple.
For dresses, I really like Ali Ro. The quality is amazing, and the designs, superb -- it feels like you're wearing art!
xo
TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross. I'm a huge fan of dresses at affordable prices! And I hate wearing the same one twice.
Loving that top dress so much. Is that Natalie? Currently my go-to uniform is jeans, t-shirt and flip-flops. Most of my purchases lately have been from J.Crew.
@Design A-Peele: J.Crew is where I got my most recent LBD! Love!
@Inspiration in Italy: Oh yes, I miss the boutiques in Rome molto! I'm living vicariously through you!
@Happenstance: Yes, it's Natalie! Isn't she gorgeous!?
A girl can never have too many LBDs :) My faves are DVF, Topshop and even BCBG from time to time.
The LBD is one of man's greatest inventions. Chic, classic and you can always jazz it up with cool accessories.
I recently made a great LBD find at cusp, at the Water Tower (and it was on sale!) ~ it's a fitted sheath dress, and my husband loves it because he says it's classy yet sexy. Yay for the LBD!
I love this black dress, it is so classy!
Lovely post! I am more about the Little Gray Dress these days but I have a really great black chiffon wrap dress in my line that I wear for formal events and had a black Rebecca Beeson ruched tee dress that I wore year-round until the fabric started tearing(!) I recently replaced it with a cotton black and white chevron print wrap dresrs, but it's warm here so I know in your neck of the woods that wouldn't fly :)
oh my goodness i love the first dress! the ruffle detailing! is that natalie portman?
just read your answer above, oops! :) love it.
my go-to stores for essentials like these are J.Crew and Banana for sure!
I hardly owned any black clothes at all when I was in my twenties but they have started to creep into my wardrobe over the past couple of years. Since moving out of London I've started much more internet shopping and like My.wardrobe.com where you can also shop under colour schemes x
Love Natalie's dress.. it has a great architectural element with the collar.
For really basic shapes that can be easily adapted I think Banana and JCrew have the best within-reach options. For something with a little more zing I'd probably go to BCBG because I love the fabrics they use.
As far as style, any dress with a natural waist, A-line skirt and a pretty bodice that accommodates a (ahem) curvy figure can sweep me off my feet!
I actually don't have a LBD in my closet. I have tons of LD's though ;) (black is a big nono for me)
For dresses, I usually get vintage or random designers and high street labels. Am completely disloyal...
I agree that it's essential to have a collection of cute little dresses you can make fabulous though! :D
I have a collection of LBDs since I'm in the event business and have to wear dress up often. My current fave is a D&G that I purchased as a skirt from a thrift shop for $6.00. When I got it home and put it on it fit really strangely as a skirt- turns out it's a strapless dress. Super fit with an A-line silhouette that always makes me feel good!
Oh that first one is just adorable. Love the detail around the neck. Just realize I owe you an e-mail ---ekk!
love natalie portman so much :) she looks great in anything :) loving your blog too :) happy new year to you :) !
I have to say I'm pretty similar. I always go for the little black dress. I ventured out a bit and found a lovely silver sheath dress that I adore. But I went back to me LBDs. I always have the shoes to match :)

I have a couple of little black dresses, but come on, every girl could use more! This is a great post by the way, love the lbd's!
