Bedroom Eyes

Right now in my home all eyes are on the bedroom. Not because it's great -- the opposite in fact -- but because it needs some major help. Having just finished the living room, the bedroom's 'okay for now' quality screams in comparison. It's time to remedy that.
In pondering the colors I'd like to use, I can't think of a more soothing hue than grey. It's like a soft midnight sky signaling time for relaxation and sleep. I'd pair the grey with crisp whites to keep it bright enough for daytime and prevent it from feeling too heavy.
I'm also dreaming of a beautiful headboard for the bedroom. Right now I have mirrors filling in for one, but I'd love to soften the room with some fabric and get an upholstered one. It might also be fun to experiment with a fun shape like this, too! A single gorgeous pillow to take center stage on the bed wouldn't hurt either.

Realizing I don't have enough pattern in my home, I'd like to change that and incorporate some in the bedroom. If not on the bed itself than perhaps in an upholstered chair or bench at the foot of the bed. Something soft and romantic like this would be perfect for that soothing, feminine feel I'm after!

What are your bedroom must-haves and wants?

I totally know what you mean about bedroom getting the short end of the stick. Once my living room was done, I cringed when thinking of the un-done-ness of the bedroom. I can't wait to talk all about our rooms tomorrow!!

Sounds like you have some amazing ideas going on and I can't wait to see how it turns out!
We painted our bedroom a silver metallic paint. It looks mostly grey but with a little fun to it. I love your idea for a big pillow that sounds perfect! Happy Friday!

Bedrooms are a great place to introduce pattern and take a few risks. Since they are not public areas, anything goes.

My living room is finally done, and like you, it's on to the bedroom! A chandelier is very necessary, but then again, I can put one of those wherever there's room!

I've been thinking about grey for my guest room. In my bedrooms I like a lot of pillows - comfortable ones, not the decorative ones, and NO clutter. It's my relaxing space. -jami

Fabric, fabric fabric! I love your inspiration and I find the best way to translate besides paint (and especially in a beddroom where it's plentiful is FABRIC! I just scored so pretty economical finds in the scrap bin of a trendy, expensive local fabric stores, enough for a custom bedskirt, euro shams, and bolster pillow...i'll have a whole new custom look pretty soon! Hope your room turns out spectactular! Can't wait to see the results!

I like the first one best, although they're all lovely! My bedroom is contemporary - the bed is the feature and made like a four-poster with top rails, but hubby made it out of steel and its painted black. The rest of the room is minimalist with wood floors, a sisal rug and white linen. I add a touch of colour to the room with masses of brightly coloured pillows :)

Why is it that we leave the bedroom for last? Maybe because not many people see it? But you are right...it should be soothing. I love the midnight blue!!

My goal is to have two looks to alternate in summer and winter:)

Bedrooms are my favorite room in the house. I love white bed linen, lovely lamps, candles, and photos of my fam. My problem is that I like to change things around a lot (e.g bright bed linen in summer and warmer linen in winter, so I usually keep things very neutral and change my linen and pillows around to mix it up a bit. I look forward to hearing how it all turns out. :)

Love the idea of a gray & white palette. Our last bedroom was too dark, so I made our current one a lot lighter with white bedding and touches of color. I like it so much better.

Hello Crystal,

I've missed you! Each visit to your blog is like having a mini -conversation with you, though, if that makes sense :) As for this post, I cannot get over that first image. The bed is exquisite! As for my bedroom must-haves? A large mirror, artwork, great pillows + linens... and pieces of furniture that are unexpected, like a low cabinet for books. Would love to see pics when you are done!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend,

xoxo,
Sarah

Love seeing all these beautiful pictures of bedrooms. I too am having a think about my bedroom - well actually it was never right since I moved in. Biggest hurdle is that you 'turn into the bedroom so you always get a sideview - which is never shown in magazines.

I've always enjoyed blue / grey in my previous bedrooms - soothing, colourful and warming.

Absolutely adore the mixture of grey and white in the bedroom. It is soo soothing! We started off having black and white, which was nice but intense. Then we went to white on white, also nice but felt like a hospital room! So now we have the grey and white, which seems to work really well, with balance. Hope you had a lovely weekend

These are so gorgeously feminine without being frilly. A chair in the bedroom is a must for me.

My bedroom must haves include: soft sheets, fluffy duvet (hello james perse bedding - totally changed my life), comfy pillows, decorative pillows, and anything that provides an overall sense of peace.

I always want my bedroom to be my "go-to" place in the house because after a tough day you will inevitably end up there. It should be a sanctuary (in my opinion :)

Good luck making over your bedroom! Can't wait to hear the details.

That first bed is amazing! I'm wanting to add a bit more prettiness and femininity to my bedroom, it's definitely too bare!
