Usually I scour images in search of style inspiration, but these days I've got my mind set on finding the perfect layout solutions. My new living room in SF is long and galley-like and flanked with two beautiful windows at the end.
While I'm shelving pink for the new pad in favor of richer, deeper tones, neither of these images speak to my style aesthetically, but they do serve as the perfect furniture placement inspiration.
After happening upon these rooms, I've decided to replicate the layout and place my sofa in front of the windows. It's a big task ahead of me to furnish and design my new place from scratch (remember, I'm not bringing anything with me!), but I can't wait to show you when it's all done! Who knows, maybe it'll pop up in the pages of Rue one day ;)

Can't wait to see what you do with your new home.
Beautiful layout! I can't wait to see it!
Oh that is so exciting starting from scratch! And I love that couch placement too!!
Very exciting! Love the 2nd image--the layout and those curtains!
Can't wait to see your new place! I feel like all apartments here in SF have such a beautiful charm, don't you? xoxo
ooh so fun to be decorating a new place! i'd love to see it!!
Can't wait to see it! Love these images.
Have a nice day, Crystal.

Oh, I know it will be gorgeous - can't wait to see!!
That's too funny! My new apartment is set up the same way too! It is long and narrow with two tall narrow windows at the end that are side by side. I had my chairs in front of the window previously and recently moved my couch there after seeing a photo I loved of Michelle Adams living room. Since my space is narrow and the kitchen is at the other end I like to be able to face everyone when I am entertaining and cooking. It's not as easy to watch tv having to turn your head sideways but who cares.
I love your ideas and can't wait to see the final results!
Sounds like the perfect challenge, and with your eye, it will be so so fabulous! I cannot wait to see. Enjoy the new layout and finding the perfect pieces for your new home, Crystal!
p.s I finally purchased a copy of that beautiful, little, soft pink "Love Poems" book. I searched Chapters for nearly 40 minutes for the single copy in the store! Made me think of you instantly :) Hope you are well, my friend. I think of you often...

I think the couch is perfect in front of the windows, Since the windows are a pair...it would confuse the eye to put a pair of chairs there also.Good luck and can't wait to see it!
This is exactly how my living room is set up. It makes the sofa a lovely place to sit and read as the light streams in from behind. So looking forward to seeing the final results.
Pink is my favorite color. I have bright pink walls in my bedroom and this year, I plan on redoing my room. But, I'm thinking about doing something similar to what's in the picture. I like the light walls and the pink armoire. I have a natural wood armoire and was thinking about painting it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Narrow, long spaces can often be a challenge to design, but both of these rooms are layed out very nicely! Love your blog and of course Rug Mag.

Good luck with the new place. I really love the pink living room. The placement of the furniture is great. I like the pink, but I could see how it could be too much pink.
I'm sure whatever you do will be spot-on! Have you thought about running one rod across the entire wall and extended the two outside panels almost completely out to the corners and placing one panel in the middle? It would then read as one huge window and make the space seem wider. Can't wait to see your new home tour!

I am about to embark on the same journey just the opposite way (leaving LA for Chicago) and I am also not taking anything with me. I keep going through all the stages of loss with my furniture but I keep telling myself that having a new clean start will be fun and this way I can try to replicate some of the beautiful homes shown in Rue! Good luck on your cross country move and I can't wait to see pictures of your new place. Maybe we wil pass each other somewhere in Nebraska ;)
Both of these rooms are so stunning. I'm completely inspired now!
