I've been doing a little research on my new city, trying to find the best restaurants, shops, hidden gems, wine bars -- you name it. And last night I came across the person who is likely going to be my new go-t0 cake maker, Shinmin Li from I Dream of Cake in San Francisco's North Beach district.
Though they do traditional style cakes too, I got a kick out of these "Haute Couture" sculptural designs. Fashion so delicious you could eat it. Literally.
Wishing you a very *sweet* Valentine's Day!

Oh I remember walking past this shop! All of the cakes are just to pretty to eat! I used to live in North Beach and miss it so much.
As far as food in SF you should check out.. Zazie's in Cole Valley has the BEST brunch, Foreign Cinema is another good option for brunch(there is a bar on the roof of the building next door so you can go get drinks while you wait for brunch), Golden Boy in North Beach has the best "after bar" pizza window
Wow! Now this is a talented cake designer!

Those cakes are beautiful! I love the Gucci inspired one with the bamboo details.
I've always loved these kinds of cakes, but my first question is - how do you eat them?
'Oh, I'll take the heel."
'Hmmm ... the handle part looks good.'
It makes me laugh : )
Gorgeous!

Happy Valentine's Day!! =)

Hi Crystal - so glad you stopped by and now I've discovered another lovely blog! Would absolutely love a little local meet-up sometime! :)
oh those are soooo awesome! YAY! Perfect for a holiday that revolves around sweets ;)
oh my YUM. i want cake, pretty pretty cake.
Incredible! Almost impossible to believe you can actually eat it.
I have a friend who does this! She made me a Fendi B bag cake ... that looked exactly like the one I owned! She just did an incredible Tiffany & Co. box with a "diamond" ring on the outside ...
Beautiful and funny! xxx
