I never thought I'd have to say those words. Black is normally a favorite color of mine (a quick peek at my wardrobe makes that perfectly clear), but I've had such a hard time coming to terms with the black countertops in my new kitchen.
Until I was stuck with them, I never even considered black as option. I mean, who wants black when you can have beautiful, white carrera marble? Or so I thought...
My initial reaction was to change it. But with everything else I'm doing for my home make-over, I had to get realistic with myself. I don't have the time or resources to make this a priority, so instead, I'm learning how to embrace them.
The secret to working around this for me is contrasting the black countertops with lots of white to really make it pop (yes, I hate the overly used word pop, but it works to0 perfectly here...). So I'm going with white cabinetry, white ceramic dishes and vases, and will be bringing in a blueish gray for the walls.
In the meantime, if you have any kitchen inspiration pics with black countertops, I'd love to see them: plushpalate@gmail.com.

I love black countertops to be honest and you are so right, with white its perfect!!
I have black granite countertops too.with dark wood cabinets..but since the floor is pure white marble they seem to float..also the kitchen is quite large...i would love to have carrera marble counters too but granite is more practical...being non-porous and very hard..there are no chances of stains..I guess mixing it with a lot of white should do the trick..all the best! xx meenal
I love the glossy black counter tops!
here are two images i've had saved in my inspiration archives that are actually from IKEA. they paired black countertops with white cabinets and an amazing shade of turquoise backsplash (that sadly didn't show in the photos). i think added a pop of color can help brighten up an otherwise dark kitchen. i think you can easily modernize a kitchen with black countertop though. also, it could be a lot worse...

I love black! Totally doing it in my kitchen. Carrera would never survive at my house. I can't deal with the stain possibilities. Tomato sauce bubbling at the stove, cutting flowers, little spill with the red wine....gives me anxiety. You'll love the dark, low maintenance.
I think it looks very chic against white cabinets, I am sure it will look fabulous!

Love the black countertops. So wonderful in a kitchen if you cook. No worry about stains like the white.

I'm planning on black granite in our kitchen (someday). I chose it because it's super inexpensive and classic. Black countertops, white subway tiles. I'm saving marble for my 40's :)
Well... I purposely installed black granite counter tops in my white kitchen, and really, I LOVE THEM!!!!
I have to clean them a lot, since I have two cats (one is all white, so you can just imagine... ) but they are really spectacular!

I completely understand...I have a love for carrera marble, and I'm installing it in my next home (also in my last). Right now, our apartment has black granite, and I must admit I am enjoying the change, and the non-fussy approach you can take with it!
I love the idea of black in a kitchen! I am actually starting the process this week of painting my island black and my cabinets white! Thanks for sharing!
