Feelin' Moody at the Gramercy

Lately I've been gravitating towards moody interiors and can't seem to get enough of rich, saturated colors. So, when we had the opportunity to stay at the Gramercy Park Hotel on our latest Rue trip to NYC, you can imagine I was in complete design heaven.
From the checked floors, to the breathtaking chandelieres and plush sofas, the moment you walk into the hotel you're transported to a warm and luxurious oasis amidst the bustling city. And the brilliant people at the Gramercy also understand that scent is an important intangible part of any design process. So you're also greeted with the most wonderful aroma, which reminded me of Hermes' "Un Jardin En Mediterranee." If anyone finds out how to get Gramercy-in-a-bottle, please let me know!
And then you get to the rooms. Oh the rooms! You'll never want to leave! The one we stayed in used a green and red color palette accented with punches of royal blue. All of which felt masculine, regal, cozy, and unbelievably warm. My favorite design element though were the beautiful green headboards with nailhead detailing and gold accents. I have my eye on the hunt for one just like it now!

And of course, the Gramercy has no shortage of equally inspiring design moments in their plethora of bars and restaurants. My absolute favorite though was the inside space of the Terrace on the roof of the hotel. The ceiling is adorned with hundreds of Edison lightbulbs and is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. The picture does not do it justice, so the next time you're in NYC, whether your staying at the Gramercy or not, I highly recommend a trip to the hotel for a drink just to check out the interior. You'll be so glad you did!

Crystal,

I too was struck with the scent of the GPH. After I got back from my NYC trip, I searched and searched and found out that Le Labo, the famed NY perfumerie, created a custom scent for the Gramercy Park hotel. I called and found out that you can buy the scent and candle at the hotel. I asked my friends to stop by the hotel on a recent NY trip to get me a few candles. Unfortunately, they are $150 each, which is more than I can justify spending on a candle. It does smell delicious, though. I wish my house could smell like the GPH. I'll hve to check out the Hermes scent to see if it compares.

Although I have never stayed at the Gramercy I have been there for drinks and even a wedding - it is a fabulous hotel and I love the quiet location. Staying there must have been a dream indeed!!

There last time I was in New York. The hotel is amazing, they had phenomenal art and the neighborhood is so charming. It's my dream area to live if I were to move to New York, and one of the few neighborhoods in the East coast where I could find a good cup of coffee. So glad you gals had an amazing time there =)

I saw that someone commented about the scent of the GPH. Well, even though they had a custom blended scent made the closest one that resembles that scent is 'Santal 26' a bargain for $60. You can barely tell the difference. I have them burning all over my apartment.
