Project SF Home: Week 3, Farrow & Ball Down Pipe

After trying 10 grays and 6 whites, I've thankfully decided on all my colors for the new apartment, save the bedroom for which I'm still waiting to receive my sample of Pink Ground.
Today I thought I'd share with you my pick for the living room. The bold, the beautiful, the "aggressive," as my friend put it, Down Pipe from Farrow & Ball. Grant first tipped me off to the color and though I didn't love it at first, after staring at if for days, I've had a complete change of heart.
Originally I thought it had too much of a teal undertone as I looked at the sample on my south facing (hence lots of light) dining room wall. Then I had the clever ideal of trying it in my west facing living room that is sorta dark and intimate. And that made all the difference in the world.
Down Pipe is truly a handsome color and my dark living room needed a color strong enough to hold its own. I know that's a funny way to describe a paint color, but it's vibrancy certainly packs a punch.
Instead of fighting my natural light deprived living room, I've decided to embrace that feature and go extra moody in there. Of course, I'll lighten up the space with lots of light colored furniture and ambient lighting.

I have Pedro the Painter coming over to give me an estimate tomorrow - can't wait to finally get all these gorgeous colors up on my walls!

Crystal, I just checked your blog to see if you had decided on your grey color - we just bought a house and I've wanted a grey and white room for a long time. There are so many choices! I do love the one you chose for your room. Look forward to seeing the finished product!

I think you've made a great choice and can't wait see the results. There's nothing like that F&B finish either, I know it'll look great.

I need to pick your brain on paint! We're trying to figure out master bath/bedroom colors right now - I've got my sights set on a Ben Moore grayish color at the moment but would love to know whatelse you tried!

What a lovely interior! And the colors are well-blended that it creates a relaxing atmosphere. A year ago, my husband and I went for a ride to check out some rental houses in Greenville, SC. The first house that we passed by was so simple but a lovely place to live in. We feel in love with it as soon as we laid our eyes on it.

That will look amazing! I especially love how the last picture of the wall color with that pop of yellow on the pillow looks. Picking paint color is such an art and often so difficult!

It's funny, I'm having the exact same plan of action for our future living room...it will have no windows and only a wide doorway into a bright kitchen. Like you say, I want to go with the moody theme and wrap it in dark cozy colors. Sounds like yours is coming along brilliantly!

I love the warmth and feel of the gray!! My husband and I recently painted our master bedroom the same type of gray and it added a type of drama and a romantic feeling to the room. I think when we get our own house it is going to have a bedroom designed the same as your pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

What a beautiful color! I was not planning on painting my bedroom anytime soon, but after seeing these photos I have to paint my room now. The grey walls really bring a warm feeling to the rooms and contrast great with the white furniture and bed.

I love the richness of this grey accented with warm tones and splashes of color.
