I've always loved chalk boards as a way to add a little whimsy in the home. Of course, the word lover in me adores the idea of creating an extra surface for writing...even if only with a favorite quote or a to-do list.
But, I wonder and I worry: have we seen enough of this trend already? Would love to hear your thoughts before considering it in my own home.

My friend has this up in her kitchen and it seems so handy to have her schedule up, her grocery list, and movie and restaurants that her and her husband want to try... I like it!
i don't think it gets old in the kitchen. it's cute. my friend uses it to write the "menu" for her dinner parties she throws for her buddies. i like it. :)
i like to think that i did this before it was actually a trend...but, jk, i know i didn't. i honestly still think that this is one of those trends that we, as designers/the interior-obsessed, are privy to, but the rest of the world isn't. ours is in the kitchen, insanely handy, super fun for guests, and ALWAYS gets compliments.
so i say go for it. it's only paint, right? :)
Absolutely not! There can never been enough chalkboard walls in the world. ;) I painted an ugly protruding beam in my office space with blackboard paint, and love it to death! It's very convenient having somewhere to quickly jot down a note or doodle if need be. And besides, if you ever get sick of it as a blackboard surface, it can just be a lovely black wall - always chic.
I love the idea particularly for an office or a kitchen. Although, I've often thought a wall in the master bath would be an intimate/fun place to write words that would make you blush!

I love them too - especially in an unusual frame. I'm working on a magnetic chalkboard & I'm done with the magnetic paint, now onto the chalkboard paint . . .
I think it's fun and fresh in an ornate frame.xx

Go for it! I've had mine up for over 10 years. I like to doodle flowers on it, write welcomes to gueats and amazing for party menus.
I really am loving the chalkboard in that ornate frame. I think chalkboard paint is a lot of fun and although it seems to have started as a trend, I hope it's here to stay!
i love this idea. I prefer blackboards in frames, like the first image. Something about the contrast of an ornamental frame with a functional chalkboard works so well. Also, if its in a frame you can move it around if you get sick of it.

I'm still loving this, actually I was planning putting a chalkboard in my new kitchen in an ornate gilded frame, a lot like the first photo. The frame may be a little much in the kitchen but I like a little whimsy in such a functional space. If you love it, go for it!

I love the practical nature of chalkboard paint but I have to say I'm a little over seeing it in kitchens, kids' rooms, etc. And the type A side of me hates the way chalkboards look when they're, well, chalky and dusty. Instead I'm loving the look of Plexiglass (framed or unframed!) and dry erase markers — super clean and custom colors!
Practical and pretty never go out of style... It has always struck me as a little classic, a little French. I am hoping to add this element to my home too... but in my small office/studio space.
I love how that whimsical romantic room works somehow perfectly with the chalkboard of a football game schedule.
I love this! I have always loved chalk boards and writing on walls and words in general. I don't think this ever gets old. Classic. Beautiful. Charming.
its great for a kids' room or even in a kitchen..i wouldn't consider it for any other room..love that second image! have a lovely day crystal..do vsit my blogto answer a simple question..xx meenal
I never really thought of it as a trend...I always thought it was a fun way to introduce something functional (like lists) in an attractive, fun and unusual way. so I dont think it will ever go out of style in the dining room, kids room, kitchen, play room, family room etc. so go for it....
I love the idea of a chalk board wall! I only wish I was as talented as Dana!

It is functional for grocery lists etc. and a fun piece to write on if you are the creative type, however I'm thinking you want your new home to be unique, so you need to ask yourself what can I do differently, while holding on to the chalkboard concept, other than gilded mirror or using it to write the dinner menu etc.
I have doing this for over 10 years...and still love it. At my store I created a very French shabby "pamper me" area by using chalkboard paint then doing a chalk rub on it. I love the grayish effect that it gives - and people are going nuts over it!
I think it's great if it is used frequently and changed. I've seen it in my friend's home and they never change it and it just looks like their kid took a crayon to the walls. In another friend's home, people write messages when they come over - I love that.
BTW, those black chairs in the bottom photo are DIVINE. And so simple!
I still love a good ole chalk board. I can't live without my lists of to-do's or grocery needs - it's still the perfect way to have a reminder, while adding interest to a room.

I have a chalkboard wall in my office. Every guest that stays at our house signs the wall, so it serves as a constant reminder of good times with friends. So, I say YES, in an office. But I'm kinda over it in other spaces...
i'm glad mostly people are saying go for it!!
They are useful. And fun.
And besides, who cares if it is 'trendy' or not - it's about what you like, and how you live, not what any magazine stylist says.
