SOFT SPACES

Life has been hectic around here - in a good way! - both personally and professionally and today I'm finally catching my breathe with a cleared calendar and a day in front of the computer.
It's busy days like these that I remember why I prefer neutrals to vibrant color. There's something wonderful about coming home to a soft space, no? No matter how hard I try to inject color into my home, I always fall back to warm beiges, delicate taupes, soothing grays, and healthy doses of white.
How about you? Do you prefer color to come from the vibrant life you lead or from the within the walls of your personal space?

I also love/appreciate both the neutral spaces and the bright spaces. I think the more important thing for me is a tidy space free of too much clutter.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I have seen this apartment before... BUT I L.O.V.E the rug, anyone know who has made it? The color is so yummy :)

It's exceptionally busy over here too and these places are exactly what I need. So thank you!

I tend to lean towards earthy colors. I love crisp, clean, bright looks. But there is something to me about earthy autumnal colors that just whisper "comfort".

Oh I so know what you mean. I live a very hectic life too and it's not easy to juggle everything.
I like vibrant colors to look at in magazines, but at home I prefer calmer and softer colors. I have recently painted the walls of my apartment a very light gray with the doors and woodworks in white and I find it extremely relaxing.
A soothing and comforting environment is essencial for those of us who already live vibrant lives, right?
Love you blog and Rue!

For me it depends on the room. But I'm drawn to white and for different seasons I'll punch up or tone down with the throw pillows and even changing the paint on an accent wall. Mostly I like it calm...between the roar of laughter (hopefully) at comedy clubs by night and looking at many color swatches by day, it's nice to have serene at home. BTW- that rug is amazing! Who's the source??!!

I always start out wanting to paint white. As soon as I do though I end up looking at the wall or object and think 'wouldn't that look great in red or blue or purple....' I've finally learned to go with my insticts and pull out the vibrant color swatches when I'm about to paint. I just have to have color!

I have all neutral tones but I am thinking of adding a bit more color to my world, especially in the office. Neutrals don't inspire creativity for me!
