Country Home Inspiration

With spring just around the corner, I find my mind wandering to the outdoors. Maybe it's the beautiful landscape of my new city, maybe it's perpetual talk of jaunts to wine country with friends, but I'm pining for cozy country homes to escape to for the weekend.

The understated charm of this one caught my eye as a place I'd happily visit. Beyond the beautiful wood work, you can tell it didn't take a fortune to create the inviting atmosphere I love it for. In fact, I spy a few Ikea pieces and they've never looked better.

Throughout the home, my favorite elements are the various wood pieces. From dressers, to side boards, to benches, nothing says country home like weathered furniture.

Green cabinetry that calls forth the nature outside is a lovely way to pay homage to the surroundings. I'm also a sucker for white ceramic dishes so of course when I saw the table had been styled with them my heart skipped a little beat.

I think I'm ready to drift off into dreams of my next weekend getaway. And it's only Monday. This can't be good...

Weekend Getaway in the Country

The older I get, the more I realize I am a city girl through and through. Since leaving suburban life at 18, I haven't looked back. I've fallen in love with the energy only cities have, feeling like I'm at the pulse of something collective, people all around, and walking everywhere I go, from the grocery store to the gym.

Yet, the older I get, I also find myself daydreaming of owning an old, charming little country home too. I can't think of anything better. A city place for the week and a cute cottage, like this one, for the weekends. With one contrasting the other, their individual value is much more appreciated.

The unfinished look of this place has captured my daydreaming heart. In a country home I like being able to feel its age and marvel at its history. I appreciate the quirks and oddities, in fact, I adore it more because of them.

Sloping staircases, floors and ceilings peppered with awkward windows and coves, would be an aggravation in the city, but become captivating in the country.

I can just imagine all the open space that must roll out from under these sunny windows. The perfect inspiration to cook up a rustic, seasonal meal that's hearty and to the point.

And at the end of the day, retreating to this living room with a good book, no television or computer in site because that, after all, is for life back in the city.
