We all know that, 'design is in the details,' so today I thought I'd share a few images where those extra little somethings make all the difference in my mind.
What first caught my attention in this space were the beautiful moldings and fluted half columns, but the gold leaf detailing is what makes them completely irresistible to me! This simple embellishment takes a casual, laid back room, injects a whole lot of glamour and succeeds in creating a unique and original space!
The sunlight, simplicity, and freshness all draw me into this adorable little sitting area. But the cute ties on the curtains, the clear finials on the rod, and the stripes on the pillows keep my eyes bouncing around the room with delight!
When I first saw this stairwell, I had never seen anything like it before! I'm not sure, but I suspect this is the work of the talented David Wiseman (please correct me if I am wrong). The ornate flowers and reference to nature add so much beauty and dimension to the space, it's clear to see what a different the details can make.
Anna Spiro's bathroom has quickly become a favorite of mine ever since Catherine Shield, writer for Vogue Australia, first featured it. And - surprise surprise - the mirrors are what did it for me! Adding two different shapes and colors, tied in by their antique quality set against a contemporary backdrop of white subway titles is the perfect example of how an overall look is truly created by the details.
Happy long, holiday weekend (if you're in the USA, that is)! See you Tuesday. xoxo Crystal

I'm all for details. However, those flowers are cetainly (I'm grasping for a suitably charitble word) unusual. As for the mismatched mirrors and subway tiles: adore!
Just looked at Mr. Wiseman's website. His work is phenomenal. Much more sophistcated and masterly than the stairwell with it's stencilled on branches. I would wager that the stairwell was inspired by...
love this more than I can write- the two mismatched mirrors are perfect

Oh, my God.... This is a fairy tale... I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE everything. Photo 1 is stunning. Photo 2 - love little adorable bows and ribbons that hold the curtains. Photo 3 - I can't even find the right words to say how I feel... it's just one of the most beautiful interior design features I've ever seen in my entire life! I once saw something similar, but made out of wood. It was one of the National Trust 17-18 century houses... I will send you the name as soon as I recall it. Photo 4 - adore a splash of colour.

Oh my- I love Anna Spiro's bathroom too!! I have collected vintage mirrors for ages...what a great idea to use like that! ;)
That staircase is to die for!
I can't get over that stairwell wall!
Ooh, I'm such a sucker for subway tiles! However, I did help my parents find about five semi-mismatching antique mirrors for one of their bathrooms. The effect is similar (pretty great, if I do say so myself).
Crystal--thanks again for guest blogging yesterday! I am finally getting to catch up on my blog reading since I went on an internet diet last week :-) I love these rooms so much for all the details. That first room is just delicious! And I am also such a sucker for a great mirror... just lovely!
sigh. those striped pillows get me every time!
have fun at ikea this weekend--don't you love driving a big truck!? especially when it's full of furniture ;)
Stunning stucco is that the correct name for the plaster flowers protruding from the stair way wall. Looove the bathroom space.Thank-you for bringing us this post, your such a gem! Sharon xx (UK)
I really like these details! They're all quite different from one another, and very successful ~
The first space is perfection, and I am drawn to it in a way I can't describe...perhaps the moulding and painting...the grand look of it all, of course the flooring!
the bathroom is gorgeous! it's just perfect with those mirrors!
That bathroom makes me ridiculously happy. I don't think my sweetheart would go for it though. He hates accent walls, for instance, because he fixates on "that one wall is the wrong color." I can only imagine how he'd feel about mismatched mirrors!
oh the bathroom is just divine with the mismatched mirrors. wow.
have a great weekend!
OK after seeing this I'm definitely motivated to redecorate my pad! :)
#1 on list: Mismatched mirrors! :D
