Weekend Getaway in the Country

The older I get, the more I realize I am a city girl through and through. Since leaving suburban life at 18, I haven't looked back. I've fallen in love with the energy only cities have, feeling like I'm at the pulse of something collective, people all around, and walking everywhere I go, from the grocery store to the gym.
Yet, the older I get, I also find myself daydreaming of owning an old, charming little country home too. I can't think of anything better. A city place for the week and a cute cottage, like this one, for the weekends. With one contrasting the other, their individual value is much more appreciated.
The unfinished look of this place has captured my daydreaming heart. In a country home I like being able to feel its age and marvel at its history. I appreciate the quirks and oddities, in fact, I adore it more because of them.
Sloping staircases, floors and ceilings peppered with awkward windows and coves, would be an aggravation in the city, but become captivating in the country.
I can just imagine all the open space that must roll out from under these sunny windows. The perfect inspiration to cook up a rustic, seasonal meal that's hearty and to the point.
And at the end of the day, retreating to this living room with a good book, no television or computer in site because that, after all, is for life back in the city.

i think i'm a lil like u - VERY much a city type of girl (but actually i think i'm really developing my beach chic vibe back) .. but i dream here and there about a rustic lil place .. but then i overthink and think i'd never be "happy" in rustic ..

I love your idea of two homes. That would be a dream. There is something calming about the country - getting away, turning off everything and letting yourself relax. Beautiful home photos.

You articulated so beautifully why this city girl daydreams of a weekend cottage in the country, too <3

It would be nice to have homes both places, huh? The energy of the city can't be beat but sometimes it is good to get away from the hustle and bustle and just be still. Great images! xo

So charming. Love how worn in everything is. Agreed about dreaming about country-life. But only a few weekends throughout the year! Hah

Completely agree!
As much as I see myself as a city girl through and through - I often daydream of having a simple, rustic life in the country. Of growing my own vegetables + baking my own bread...

as a city girl through & through, must confess that our weekends in the country {especially in the summer} make city life that much sweeter . . .
