For the Man in Your Life

Let's start the new year off differently and with a space just for the men. As a girl who grew up in a house full of brothers, I can definitely appreciate a good, masculine design when I see one!
I am in love with this small East Harlem apartment featured in the December issue of Lonny Magazine. It's sophisticated, cozy, chic and calming all at once. Home owner and design consultant Anthony Gianacakos employs mirrors and big horizontal stripes on the walls to create depth and space in a tight living area.
The layers of different patterns, colors, and textures on this bed are what do it for me in this room. The camel colored pillows give it a pop of warmth, while the plush throw blanket adds a luxurious touch.
In a small space, staying organized is key. I love Anthony's use of different decorative boxes to hide loose items and clutter in a stylish and unified way.
I don't think I could love these black walls any more than I already do! I adore the idea of painting a closest in a glossy, inky black! It's so glamorous and so 'night club!'

I will also have to borrow his idea of sticking a bookshelf in a closet as an alternative to expensive built-in shelving. It's the perfect place to house clothes, purses, shoes, and more! Now, why didn't I already think of that? :)

Yellow Inspiration from Summer Thornton

I first learned about Chicago designer Summer Thornton from a friend of mine. I checked out her portfolio and I'm hooked! I love how she mixes a young, hip aesthetic with traditional and classic lines. Her ability to balance confident pops of color with subdued palettes makes for a delicious design. Right now I'm feeling inspired by her use of yellows, mustards, and golds.
Happy Friday! See you Monday! xoxo Crystal
