OUR DEEPEST FEAR

One of my favorite quotes begins like this: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." While I ended 2010 with my non-goals, I'd like to start 2011 with my intentions for the new year, all of which I hope will focus me on the continued quest to embrace my "light."

*open up to others more often: though I'm a rather private and protective person by nature, I'd like to try talking to strangers more often and letting down my guard a little more this year. I bet I'll discover there's much to be gained from opening up more than I'm used to.

*embrace the process, don't hurry to the end: this year is going to be one filled with challenges and change. I'm moving to a new city, I'm growing a start-up, and I'm stepping into new levels of responsibility. I hope I remember that this time of personal growth and challenge is all part of a beautiful process and bigger picture. I'd like to enjoy the ride more often and stress about the end a bit less.

*launch a new personal site: I think 2011 calls for a little update to the ol' blog. I'd love to create a personal site that more accurately reflects who I am, and include things like an "about me" section, my design portfolio, and more. It's time to take things to the next level.

*prioritize my workouts: I'm a bit of a workaholic so I'm pretty much on my laptop working from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed. I have the tendency to push my trips to the gym off in the urgency of getting "just a few more emails" out the door until it's too late to go at all. An hour at the gym to clear my mind and move my body is more important than any email, and I need to remember that. Health comes first.

*do something unrelated to design: Design is my passion so I am grateful that I get eat, breath, and live it every day as I've built my career and hobbies around it. But I'd like to be a more well-rounded person and build friendships in new circles and stretch myself to go outside my comfort level.

Here's to having an intentional new year! I hope your 2011 is off to a great start!

KUDOS. I need to do this as well. Inspiring goals, for sure. You've accomplished so much last year, I'm sure this year will be E-P-I-C. And speaking of getting to know new friends... lets get on it, shall we? :)

Crystal, I just want to say thank you for sharing so much with us here lately. Your dreams and goals are so well thought out. They are destined to be well lived, too.
We are all cheering for you.

Interestingly, your top three items are my top three items this year. Must be something in the air. I tend to be a bit too private online as well. Time to start eagerly uploading photos of my home, projects and things I love.

*sigh* if there was a way to get a workout while on our laptops - most of us would be fitness models! :)

Let's tackle our goals!

Great goals, Crystal! I am definitely in need of some more physical activity in my daily routine...seeing the affects of the holidays more than usual has gotten me a bit worried. Gonna kick my butt into gear by getting back into dance. That brings up my next point...I totally agree with broadening horizons and opening yourself to become a well-rounded person. I think involving oneself in fields beyond the one you work in (especially for creative folks) actually better informs the work you do. Keep it up! :-)

Lovely post Crystal. I have had your first 2 resolutions as thoughts running around in my head for the past couple of days, but seeing your post has inspired me to make it real and forced me to put them down on paper so I can make sure I achieve these this year!

Great intentions, Crystal. In one way or another, I've embraced similar ones. At the top of my list is to be happy every day. I blogged about that yesterday in fact! Wishing you amazing success!

I love that quote as well. It is so very true. I wish much luck in your goals for 2011.

My goal is to not be fearful of success. I actually have this quote posted on my computer monitor.

Have a great day!

great post. i think it is a time for greatness and it is a feeling that is definitely in the air! it resonates with me at least! rather than making a list i chose to do a mantra and it's "be fearless." it seems that when you put yourself out there for good things to happen, then they will! here's to a fabulous year!

Great intentions! And I like that word as opposed to resolutions. Happy 2011!

One thing I try to do is to get some of my work done on my smartphone while on the treadmill or walking (when the weather is nice it really is worth it to get out of doors).

Another way to conquer two birds with one stone: when I joined a yoga class, I began to know people outside of work.

Resolutions are hard to keep. I like the use of intentions. It makes it more personal, about something within you. Resolutions just seem to be things you tell people then go against. I'm sure that you'll progress well!
