Inspirational Space of the Week: A Second Glance

I like this room because the designer had me fooled. The first time I saw it I thought it was a living room. It wasn't until I gave it a better look that I realized it was actually a bathroom.

The classic chandelier, the color palette of deep greens and dark browns, the seating area and chairs, the picture frames and sconces are all things you'd expect to find in a traditional living room. The clawfoot tub almost seems to be out of place. But that's why I like it. The best designs are full of surprises!!

Inspirational Space of the Week: a Touch of Romance

I absolutely fell in love with this little vignette when I saw it over at Haute Design. The exaggerated number of sparkly chandeliers (you can never have too many!) and the heart shaped chair (I want one!), just reach into my heart and make me feel romantic inside.

Inspirational Space of the Week: Letting go to a room...

I love how this image evokes the feeling of an old abandon room whose beauty (intricate fireplace, cute shelving nook) has been brought back to life.

The empty picture frame above the mantel echoes the sentiment that this space holds the ghosts of memories past. This is such a wonderful example of letting go to a room, listening to what it's telling you, and embracing its essence.

I hope it is sunny where you are and that your weekend is filled with beauty! Happy Friday. See you Monday. xoxo Crystal

Inspirational Room of the Week: Revival Home

There is so much goodness in this room, where to start?! The velvety red on the walls is perfection. Imagine it without the strong color and it just isn't quite right. The period mixing shows great confidence and restraint on the part of the designer.

The modern light fixture and chairs add unexpected sass and pizazz to the otherwise neoclassical space. And the rounded windows and french doors into the room are the types of architectural details that truly make a space! More of those lovely windows and great design down below.

Happy Friday! See you Monday. xoxo Crystal

Inspirational Space of the Week: Big Ideas

I love this space for so many reasons! What caught my eye initially is the room divider bookcase with pink drapery backdrop. This is a great idea for creating an extra space in the house while still keeping an open floorplan.
The seating achieves the perfect conversation area without being an obvious circle or square in order to draw you in. The varying styles, heights, and angles of the furniture and its placing keep the space interesting and unpredictable. This space comes pretty close to perfection in my opinion!
And here's a look on what's on the other side of the pink drapery and bookshelf. Don't you just love the homeowners confidence for color?!
Happy Holiday weekend! See you next week. xoxo Crystal

Inspirational Space of the Week: 1970s Soho

Hank Azaria's Soho pad is so well done. This is scale at its best! The columns help make the large space appear more intimate by visually pocketing corners out. The low couch works in this huge room because it's balanced by the high painting above. Those oversized armchairs also add height and mass to offset the couch and add a little sense of humor at the same time.
And that Paul Frankl cork coffee table and the matching dip stool are to die for. To see more of Hank's cool 1970s pad, click here

Inspirational Space of the Week: Deliberate Design

There are so many things I love about this room, I don't know where to start! The white floor and walls are the perfect canvas from which everything else pops. Yet, the white is so deliberate that it's a statement in and of itself.

The fabulous plush rug creates loads of texture and the caramel woods and leathers help disperse bursts of warmth throughout the space. But most of all, I love how the designer mixes natural elements like wood, linen, and wool so seamlessly with high glam things like crystal, glass, and lacquer. Simply perfect!

Happy Friday! See you Monday. xoxo Crystal

Inspirational Space of the Week: Naturally Napa

Last month I had the treat of enjoying a weekend getaway to Napa Valley. In our bungalow I found a copy of Western Interiors & Design Magazine and fell in love with this Napa Valley home they featured on the cover.

I love the way the designer breaks up the squareness of the room with the circular table, which is repeated in the curves of the chair and carried further in the round of the mirror. I love the way the indoor space so seamlessly accommodates the outside area through its natural color palette. The terracotta hues are perfect for wine country and and lots of sun. The cold of the metal console legs and mesh table base are counterbalanced by the warmth of the wood elements throughout the room. It's modern yet warm. It's simple yet gutsy. What's not to love!?

Happy Friday! See you Monday. xoxo Crystal
