For the Man in Your Life

Let's start the new year off differently and with a space just for the men. As a girl who grew up in a house full of brothers, I can definitely appreciate a good, masculine design when I see one!
I am in love with this small East Harlem apartment featured in the December issue of Lonny Magazine. It's sophisticated, cozy, chic and calming all at once. Home owner and design consultant Anthony Gianacakos employs mirrors and big horizontal stripes on the walls to create depth and space in a tight living area.
The layers of different patterns, colors, and textures on this bed are what do it for me in this room. The camel colored pillows give it a pop of warmth, while the plush throw blanket adds a luxurious touch.
In a small space, staying organized is key. I love Anthony's use of different decorative boxes to hide loose items and clutter in a stylish and unified way.
I don't think I could love these black walls any more than I already do! I adore the idea of painting a closest in a glossy, inky black! It's so glamorous and so 'night club!'

I will also have to borrow his idea of sticking a bookshelf in a closet as an alternative to expensive built-in shelving. It's the perfect place to house clothes, purses, shoes, and more! Now, why didn't I already think of that? :)

I loved this spread, too! And I think the bookcase in the closet is smart.

I had a bookcase in my last closet! It was definitely handy for shoes and such... I need to get a smaller one for my new closet...

Hey, Thanks. Let me just say that this post is a welcome relief to us guys. I know there aren't very many of us who blog about design, but we are here, and like our rooms to not always be so frilly.

I love the bed shot here- the antlers, the sheets, the leather pillows... fabulous! Happy new year!

Yes, the shelves in the closet are a great idea, and the other set of shelves even goes some small way toward containing the ever-present technology, which is difficult to display with style. Anyone else entangled in wires...?

I too loved this house in Lonny! The bookcase idea is so smart! I have a huge closet, but my shoes are just layered on the floor - that's an idea I'm taking home to use!! Thanks for sharing!

I'm the girliest of girly girls and I still love this space. I think the closet is my favorite part, but I also think the striped walls are pretty hot. Not crazy about the sheets but love the pop of the white antlers on the charcoal wall. The whole place feels like a chic boutique.

Love the dark walls and the bits of brown and orange used to accent them!

What a great post! There's something so appealing about a masculine space -- the colors and textures are perfect. I think my favorite image is the third one, with all of their treasures displayed in such a great way...plus the vertical lines behind add such a bold flair!

Hope you are having a great Monday, Crystal!

Love, love this! (and how sweet of you to think of the boys - so easy to get carried away in pretty girliness) This is strong and has a masculine edge, but isn't too overbearing so the girls would also enjoy it just as much!

(Dying to paint my front hall black for this look!)

Stay stylish!

This spread is really cool! And I love the white horse with the tie... too bad my boyfriend is not a tie-guy, otherwise I would buy him a horsie ASAP!

Ah, this is how I would love to decorate my man's room. Not sure he would feel the same though! But I love it...

Cara Crystal,

Great post! I had a good laugh as well. This could have been my man's wardrobe ten/fifteen years ago. Since we moved to Italy, he has turned a hobo. Not that I mind... I like his current "no style" too -especially his (Italian) hat collection. Bacione, Ingrid in Umbria
